The Grand Escape: Vol.I
Senior Thesis
Through the creation of a fluid narrative inspired by surrealism, my work strives to have viewers experience the mental and physical freedom that comes from breaking routines. Taking inspiration from Alice in Wonderland and filmmaker Chris Marker, my work toes the line between what we consider normal and surreal. I am inspired by personal experience of burnout and mental isolation, and how being consumed by the arts allowed me to reignite my daily creativity and begin dreaming again. I work predominantly with photography as both an ode to my early art career, and to bring realism and familiarity to viewers. I invite the viewers to explore the idea that routines don’t have to be restrictive, but if taken too far, they can inhibit the mind from fantastic freedom.
